InterDigital Demonstrates Wireless Convergence Technologies at 2010 Mobile World Congress

Company Release - 2/16/2010

BARCELONA, Spain--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- InterDigital, Inc. (NASDAQ: IDCC) today announced successful demonstrations of its suite of convergence technologies at the 2010 Mobile World Congress. The live trials - which include seamless device mobility, media mobility and bandwidth aggregation across networks - are supported by several technology and product partners and illustrate true convergence of any content, across any device, on any network. Advanced system solutions from InterDigital target ubiquitous mobile broadband, low latency, high capacity, and reliable coverage for limitless applications, while preserving QoS flexibility and improving network traffic management.

The exhibit features a suite of advanced technologies for more efficient wireless networks, a richer multimedia experience, and new mobile broadband capabilities:

-- Bandwidth Aggregation Management: Partnering with Attila Technologies,
InterDigital demonstrates the ability to combine bandwidth across
multiple wireless networks to improve quality of service, increase
throughput, eliminate dropped connections and improve network resource
utilization. The underlying technology uses cognitive radio techniques,
and an innovative network protocol combined with deep packet inspection
for aggregating multiple heterogeneous bandwidth sources and optimizing
        user experience.
-- Device Connectivity and Mobility:Collaborating with product partners
HelloSoftand Intrinsyc, InterDigital features its Media Independent
Handover (MIH) technology, the IEEE 802.21 standard for uninterrupted,
seamless multimedia session transfers between 2G/3G/4G cellular, WiFi or
WiMax networks, and other wired and wireless interfaces. InterDigital's
MIH client - running on several types of wireless devices with distinct
operating systems - performs seamless handovers between live 3G and WiFi
networks in two separate demonstrations: integrated with Hellosoft's
VoIP client on a Windows Mobile HTC smart phone to transfer voice calls,
and with Intrinsyc's RapidRIL/Connection Manager on the G1 with Android
OS to stream real-time video services.
-- Media Mobility: With support from GoldSpot Media, InterDigital
highlights seamless multimedia transfers across devices and intelligent
data optimization. Media mobility allows an end-user to access,
transfer, or share content anywhere on any device, over any network.
During the demonstration, streaming video sessions are shared or
transferred between several smart phones and laptops, whereby the video
format is optimized for each device (for example, high-definition video
is delivered to the laptops and smart phones receive low-resolution).

"Multi-faceted collaborations with companies like Attila, HelloSoft, Intrinsyc and GoldSpot underscore our ability to work with a broad range of innovative technology partners who share our goal of creating spectrum multiplying technologies for optimal bandwidth usage and a richer multimedia experience," said Naresh Soni, Chief Technology Officer of InterDigital. "Building on our expertise in complete end-to-end wireless system solutions, InterDigital is integrating several standalone convergence technologies into a complete and efficient architecture for tomorrow's network of networks."
