InterDigital to Present on IP Flow Mobility and Converged Gateways at Long Island IEEE Annual Conference
Converged Wi-Fi/Femtocell Solution Will be Outlined at
InterDigital Sponsored LISAT2012
MELVILLE, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
InterDigital, Inc. (NASDAQ: IDCC) today announced that it will be
presenting on future network architectures involving converged
Wi-Fi/femtocell deployments at LISAT2012, the annual conference of the
Long Island section of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics
Engineers (IEEE). In addition to presenting, InterDigital®
has provided sponsorship to the conference since LISAT's inception in
InterDigital's presented paper, authored by engineers John Cartmell and
John Tomici, proposes a method where a Wi-Fi/femto-enabled converged
gateway is used to improve mobile network capacity. The converged
gateway features "local IP flow mobility", a function that selectively
offloads certain traffic to specific Wi-Fi-enabled end-users, resulting
in an increase in capacity of the area serviced by a femtocell.
"Operators and network infrastructure providers are working to deliver
more capacity and improved user experience by aggregating networks and
pushing traffic to the edge of the network, and our proposal highlights
a simple and effective way of achieving this while mitigating technology
and deployment issues," said Mr. Cartmell. "Network aggregation is a
focus of research at InterDigital, and it was an honor for us to present
a paper to such a distinguished gathering of IEEE colleagues."
The IEEE is the world's largest professional association dedicated to

serves an area from Nassau County to Suffolk, NY. The 8th annual Long
Island Systems, Applications and Technology Conference (LISAT2012) will
be held on Friday, May 4, 2012 at Farmingdale State College. For more
