WILMINGTON, Del., Dec. 18, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The contributions of two engineers from InterDigital, Inc. (NASDAQ: IDCC), a mobile technology research and development company, were recently acknowledged by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).  Joseph Levy, Principal Engineer, InterDigital Labs, has been appointed to the IEEE Standards Association (SA) Standards Board, and Onur Sahin, Senior Staff Engineer, InterDigital Labs, has been selected to receive the 2018 IEEE Signal Processing Society Best Paper Award.

“As a research and development company, we’re only as smart as our engineers,” said Dr. Robert DiFazio, Vice President, InterDigital Labs.  “Innovation begins with shared ideas, and we’re proud of the contributions that engineers like Joseph Levy and Onur Sahin are making through collaboration and standardization with IEEE.  Although these are individual acknowledgements, they reflect the tremendous effort that all of InterDigital’s engineers make to contribute to industry development through global standards.”

As a member of the IEEE SA Standards Board, Joseph Levy will help encourage and coordinate the institute-wide development of IEEE standards.  He will also serve on the NesCom subcommittee, tasked with reviewing and determining project authorization requests (PARs) for all new IEEE SA standardization activities.

Onur Sahin, is a co-author of the award-winning paper, “Joint Precoding and Multivariate Backhaul Compression for the Downlink of Cloud Radio Access Networks”.  The paper, published in IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing, Volume 61, Number 22, November 2013, was selected among IEEE Signal Processing Society’s published articles that have appeared in the past five years.

IEEE is the world’s largest technical professional organization dedicated to advancing technology to benefit humanity.  The IEEE Standards Association (IEEE SA) develops global standards for various industries such as power and energy, biomedical and healthcare, home automation, robotics, transportation, information technology and telecommunications (including 802.11, the basis for Wi-Fi).
